Dr. Cam Patterson, chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, will discuss “The Future of Academic Medicine” at the next UA Little Rock Downtown Lecture Series on Wednesday, June 26.

The lecture will be held 12-1 p.m. at UA Little Rock Downtown, 333 President Clinton Ave. Guests are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

A renowned cardiologist and health care administrator, Patterson has been the chancellor at UAMS, the state’s only health sciences university, since June 1, 2018. In his lecture, Patterson will discuss the history of academic medicine, current challenges, and what he sees as the path forward.

Patterson previously worked at Weill-Cornell Medical Center and Komansky Children’s Hospital/New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, where he was senior vice president and chief operating officer. He also held numerous academic and clinical appointments at the University of North Carolina (UNC), including as physician-in-chief at the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care and executive director of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute.

He has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Vanderbilt University, a medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler School of Business.

The UA Little Rock Downtown Lecture Series features experts who discuss issues in science, health, community, the arts, and other topics.
