Mariposa, comprised of pianist Linda Holzer and violinist Sandra McDonald, will present a chamber music recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall of the UALR Fine Arts Building.
Admission is free and open to the public. The program, titled Mariposa & Friends: Chamber Music Classics!, includes Sonata in F, KV. 376 for violin and piano by W.A. Mozart; Oblivion, Invierno Porteno, and Otono Porteno for piano trio by Astor Piazzolla; and Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44 by Robert Schumann.
Holzer, the coordinator of classical piano studies at UALR, and McDonald, assistant concertmaster of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, will be joined in this recital by guest artists from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra: Rafael Leon on cello, Katherine Reynolds on viola, and Leanne Day on violin.
The Mariposa duo was founded in 1998, and takes its name from the Spanish word for “butterfly.” The duo enjoys exploring standard and adventurous classical repertoire.
