Blood drive set for Nov. 21

UALR Staff Senate invites the campus roll up their sleeves for the Red Cross blood drive in November.

The blood drive will take place from 1o a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the University Commons Building in the center of the four residence halls near Fair Park Boulevard.

Give Life. Donate Blood. American Red CrossReservations are encouraged using the sponsor code UALR at redcrossblood.org. Those who sign up through the Red Cross beforehand can take advantage of our new Staff Senate shuttle service, where we’ll drive you to and from your appointment.

Donating blood through the Red Cross has a direct and immediate effect on the community, bringing in dozens of units of blood that go to local hospitals.

The process of donating blood takes about an hour, including the registration, mini-physical, the donation (which lasts about 15 minutes), and resting period (which includes refreshments). Certain criteria must be met in order to give blood. A full list of eligibility requirements can be found at the Red Cross site.

One person’s blood donation may help up to three people. Donated red blood cells have a shelf-life of up to 42 days, and a healthy donor may donate every 56 days.
