Lily Henwood Q&A

How did you get started in the University Career Services profession?
I learned about this position through a referral from someone who thought it would be a good opportunity for me. After hearing more about the role, I felt that my experience managing my own personal social media accounts would translate well into the responsibilities of the position. I also consider myself a flexible and adaptable person. I’m able to adjust to different environments, work with a variety of people, and take on new tasks. Because of this, I feel confident stepping into different situations and contributing where I am needed.

Describe a “typical workday” in University Career Services.
I spend time managing emails and social media, creating posts that capture students’ attention and reviewing analytics to understand which content is most effective. I regularly work with the team to come up with creative ideas that keep students informed about career resources and opportunities. Through these experiences, I continue to grow while helping support students on their career journeys.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
In my free time, I enjoy activities that allow me to express my creativity. Creative writing is something I enjoy, as it gives me the chance to explore my imagination and put my thoughts into stories. I also like painting and sketching, which are great ways for me to relax while creating something visually interesting. I spend most of my free time reading, often finding myself absorbed in a good book.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
Between the ages of 14 and 16, I had the unique opportunity to travel across much of the United States. My grandpa worked for a trucking company, and he was allowed to bring me along on some of his trips. Through that, I was able to see many different landscapes and places that I might not have experienced otherwise. I saw snow-capped mountains and wide valleys, visited busy cities, and even spent time at the beach. It’s hard to choose just one place as the most interesting. However, one experience that always stands out to me is the time we went to the beach in the middle of December. It’s something I still think about because it felt so unusual compared to the typical idea of a beach trip.

What do you like best about living in Central Arkansas?
I am still getting used to living in a large city. It feels very different from the small town in Southeast Arkansas where I grew up, and the change has definitely taken some adjustment. Everything moves a little faster, and there is always something happening around me. One of the things I have enjoyed the most since being here is the music scene. Before moving, I had the chance to see my favorite band perform live here in the city, which was an exciting experience for me. I even got the opportunity to shake the vocalist’s hand and introduce myself before the show, which made the moment even more memorable.
