CALM Classroom supports students in developing the skills they need to manage emotions, reset, and return to learning ready to engage. Offered in our partner schools for students, this work focuses on building self-calming strategies and encouraging healthy emotional expression.
Why CALM Classroom Matters
Before students can fully engage in learning, they need to feel safe, regulated, and supported. When students feel overwhelmed, their ability to focus, problem-solve, and participate decreases.
CALM Classroom helps students:
- Build emotional awareness and self-regulation skills
- Develop strategies to manage stress and frustration
- Feel safe and supported in the classroom environment
- Return to learning with focus and confidence
What This Looks Like
CALM Classroom is integrated into the school day and works in coordination with school counselors and staff to support students’ overall emotional well-being.
Students are supported through:
- Guided lessons focused on self-calming and emotional expression
- Access to calm spaces within the classroom
- Opportunities to reset, reflect, and return to learning
- Consistent routines that reinforce emotional safety and structure
Calm Corners & Classroom Support
Classrooms are equipped with tools and spaces that help students regulate and reset when needed. These supports are designed to be accessible, consistent, and normalized as part of the learning environment.
Examples include:
- Comfortable spaces such as rugs, mats, or cushions
- Sensory tools like fidgets, stress balls, and headphones
- Visual supports including feelings charts, affirmations, and calming strategies
- Reflection tools such as journals or calming cards
- Timers to support structured reset time
Supporting Students in Real Moments
We recognize that behavior is often a form of communication. When students feel overwhelmed, they are not choosing to disengage—they are responding to a need.
CALM Classroom helps students learn how to:
- Recognize when they need a reset
- Use tools and strategies to calm their bodies and minds
- Reflect on their emotions and experiences
- Re-engage in learning in a positive and productive way
