UA Little Rock releases football, marching band feasibility study

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has received the results of its football and marching band feasibility study and will now begin analyzing the findings.

The study, announced in summer 2017, was a joint venture conducted by Convention Sports & Leisure (CSL), CarrSports Consulting LLC, Heery Sports and the Grant Group. During the past nine months, CSL has conducted extensive interviews and consultations with a wide variety of different stakeholders throughout the university and central Arkansas community.

“CSL has completed their comprehensive analysis of the feasibility of a UA Little Rock football program,” said UA Little Rock Chancellor Andrew Rogerson. “The study data will enable stakeholders and the university to generate a collaborative data-based decision.”

A committee will be formed to interpret the results and determine the best course of action in the coming months. This committee will include members of the UA Little Rock faculty and staff, UA Little Rock Board of Visitors, Trojan Advisory Council, Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, and the Little Rock Mayor’s Office.

“I appreciate the work that has been done to understand the possibilities with regard to football and a marching band at UA Little Rock,” Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola said. “I look forward to reading the information gleaned from this substantive investigation to determine next steps.”

The purpose of the study was to evaluate whether a football program and marching band would be a fiscal and meaningful addition to UA Little Rock and the central Arkansas community. A collaborative project with the city of Little Rock and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, the study examined every aspect of starting a football program.

“We are eager to look over the findings and see what the next steps in the process will be,” said Kane Webb, director of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. “It’s always good to have an objective analysis.”

No timetable has been set for a final decision on whether football or a marching band program would be added to the UA Little Rock Athletic Department.
