Trojans picked to finish third in Sun Belt Conference West Division

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock baseball team was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference West Division according to the coaches’ preseason poll, announced Wednesday morning by league officials. 

The Trojans received 48 points, just seven points behind second-place Texas State who received 55 points. Louisiana was picked to win the western division for the third consecutive season, receiving 71 points. UT Arlington finished 12 points behind Little Rock for fourth place, while Arkansas State and ULM would be picked to finish fifth and sixth respectively.

The Sun Belt has been split into two divisions, east and west, for three consecutive seasons.

Coastal Carolina was the unanimous favorite to win the eastern division, receiving 72 points and all 11 first-place votes. Behind them are South Alabama receiving 52 points, followed by Troy with 48 points. Georgia Southern was picked to finish fourth with 43 points while Georgia State was picked fifth and Appalachian State was picked to finish sixth.

Little Rock returns 21 letter-winners from last year’s squad while adding 12 newcomers to the team. The Trojans also added a new assistant coach, R.D. Spiehs, entering his first year at Little Rock.

Season tickets for the 2019 Little Rock baseball season are now on sale as head coach Chris Curry‘s Trojans are less than one month from first pitch.

The Trojans will begin their season with a three-game homestand against Creighton starting on Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at Gary Hogan Field.
