Hagins signs contract with Bosna Royal
University of Arkansas at Little Rock alumnus Josh Hagins has signed a contract with Bosna Royal, a professional basketball team based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hagins will leave this week to prepare for the start of the season in late October.
“I’m just ready to get out there,” Hagins said. “They offered me over the weekend, and I accepted on Monday. I’m just focused and ready to get my professional career started. I feel like my journey to the NBA is going to be a unique one. For me to start in Bosnia, it’s a little different, but I am definitely ready for it.”
A 6-1 guard, Hagins leaves Little Rock ranked among the program’s top five for career scoring, assists, steals, field goals, and made 3-pointers. He was a First Team All-Sun Belt and NABC All-District selection in 2015-16 after averaging 13.1 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
“My goals are just to learn the game as a professional,” Hagins said. “I’m curious what it will be like to have all this off-time now, not having to go to school anymore. It will be about occupying your time, working hard, and working smart. I just want to get better every day and be the best pro I can be.”
In Little Rock’s double-overtime win over fifth-seeded Purdue in the NCAA Tournament, Hagins scored 29 of his career-high 31 points after halftime and became the first player in tournament history to finish with at least 30 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
The Airline High School product played in the 2016 NBA Summer League with the Sacramento Kings.
Hagins becomes the second member of the 2015-16 Trojans to sign a professional contract, joining Roger Woods who signed with BBC Lausanne in July.
