Since 1978, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has sponsored Student Support Services, a Federal grant funded through the U.S. Department of Education. More than 205,611 students in over 1,149 SSS programs at colleges and universities in the U.S. and U.S. territories are assisted in their quest for a bachelor’s degree, many of whom start at two-year colleges. SSS at UA Little Rock is currently funded to serve 260 students who are first-generation college students, have low-income, and/or have a disability. The staff of SSS includes full-time staff members, graduate assistants, tutors, and work-study students.
Mission
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is committed to increasing the rates of academic achievement, retention, and graduation among historically disadvantaged students. This mission is accomplished by providing holistic and individualized support services that guide project participants through their academic journey as well as provides them with the tools essential for success beyond their college careers.
The Student Support Services, a U.S. Department of Education Federal TRIO program, is designed to help eligible students acquire necessary skills for success in college. The program offers tutorial services, skill development, and guidance and counseling, with emphasis on developing strategies for succeeding in college. All services are free and available to a limited number of students who meet the eligibility requirements under Federal guidelines.

TRIO Student Support Services values every student and delivers services to project participants that promote academic and personal development through self-exploration. SSS treats all students in an ethical, honest, fair and respectful manner; fosters an inclusive climate that values diversity and encourages cultural exploration. In addition, SSS will foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of all underrepresented and/or disenfranchised students as they experience the transformative journey through UA Little Rock.
