Student Support Services advisors offer a variety of services to SSS participants. It is recommended that participants make appointments with their assigned SSS advisor to ensure their availability; however, participants may also drop in to meet with their SSS advisor without an appointment or may meet with other SSS staff.
Our advising philosophy is to teach and educate: 1) help participants understand academic expectations; 2) empower them with skills required for academic success; 3) teach about degree programs, policies/procedures, and resources; 4) help participants adjust to collegiate life; and 5) serve as information agents who connect participants to faculty, staff, students, and services on campus.
SSS advisors provide interactive advising with: selecting the right combination of courses based upon academic preparedness (not to be substituted for UA Little Rock Undergraduate Academic Advising requirements or faculty advising); discussing course descriptions and faculty expectations; assistance with scheduling and registering for classes; and evaluating academic progress.
In addition, participants can receive assistance with time management, choosing a major, planning for a career and/or graduate school, financial and economic literacy/preparedness, career development, and various other services.
