UALR breaks ground on new Alumni Brick Plaza

Ground was broken last week to install commemorative brick pavers in the new Alumni Brick Plaza at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Located at the heart of the campus, the plaza is nestled between Student Union B and the Ottenheimer Library. The brick pavers contain the names of UALR’s distinguished alumni family.bricks

“The Plaza will be traversed by thousands of students each day, making the area one of the most visible and visited features on campus,” explained Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni and Development Christian O’Neal.

Following the success of the Alumni Walk once adjacent to the Donaghey Student Center, the UALR Alumni Association announced plans earlier in the semester to relocate the brick pavers displaced when the construction of the new Charles W. Donaldson Student Services Center began.

The work is expected to be completed by June 2014.

For a limited time, alumni can purchase a brick paver for $100 from theUALR Alumni Association. Proceeds will support the Alumni Association and The Annual Fund which provide assistance to students with scholarships.

Each new brick paver will be added to the Alumni Brick Plaza alongside the original brick pavers.

According to O’Neal, the cost of the brick pavers is expected to increase as installation costs are expected to go up.

The original brick pavers dating from 1927-1999 were carefully removed from the Alumni Walk and preserved by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management and UALR alumnus Dave Millay, ’03.
