LITTLE ROCK – The ninth annual SpectacUALR will honor the family of Mary and Rick Edwards, tremendous benefactors to the Little Rock Department of Athletics and the UA Little Rock campus. The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Jack Stephens Center.
“Mary, myself and our family are honored and humbled to be the 2017 SpectacUALR honorees,” Rick Edwards said. “When we watched the video presentation that Chasse showed us in the athletic suite in the Jack Stephens Center, we both looked at each other and choked up. We have supported the event for years, but to be recognized on this level is beyond words.”
Over the last eight years, SpectacUALR has raised over $1.7 million in support of Little Rock student-athletes. Event chairs Mary Katherine Henderson and Scott Yant will lead this year’s event.
“On behalf of the hundreds of student-athletes and coaches that have benefited from their outpouring of support, we are thrilled to recognize Rick, Mary and their entire family as the 2017 SpectacUALR honorees,” Director of Athletics Chasse Conque said. “Rick, Mary and the Edwards family mean so much to Little Rock Athletics. Their passion for our student-athletes and coaches is second to none. Rick and Mary deeply care about our community and their generosity has certainly made a significant impact on the UA Little Rock campus.”
The evening will feature unique silent and live auction items with all proceeds directly impacting Little Rock’s current student-athletes.
“We are excited about the future of Trojan Athletics as we look forward to working with Chasse and his wonderful staff,” Rick Edwards said. “Our goal for this year’s SpectacUALR is to raise the most amount of money since its beginning. Cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served and the attire will be business casual. Tickets for the event are $75.
“The support we receive from this event each year goes a long way in supporting all of our student-athletes and coaches,” Conque said. “SpectacUALR provides a great evening to celebrate with our community the successes of Trojan Athletics both past and present. We look forward to another fantastic celebration this fall.”
