Susan Polk, ’07, Wins American Bar Writing Award

Susan E. Polk, Class of 2007, is the recipient of the prestigious K. William Kolbe Law Student Writing Award.  Presented with the honor at the Fall Council Meeting of the American Bar Association, Section of Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law, Ms. Polk generously praised Bowen Professor Emeritus Gene Mullins, who supervised her research last spring.

“I already knew that Professor Mullins had a great degree of knowledge, wit and insight, but as he guided me through this project, I realized it all the more.  Relatively few would have been so eager and enthusiastic to take on a project involving electricity law and policy, but Professor Mullins did not even hesitate, and I could not have asked for a more perfect mentor, ” Ms. Polk told us.  She also had high praise for her instruction in legal writing, administrative law, and government regulation of business by Professor Ranko Oliver, Professor Mullins, and Adjunct Professor Dennis Hansen, respectively.

During law school, Ms. Polk was chosen for the Bowen School of Law Trial Team, was a member of the William R. Overton Inn of Court and the American Bar Association.

Ms. Polk served as a legal extern in the Office of the Honorable Josephine Linker Hart of the Arkansas Court of Appeals and a paralegal at Alltel Corporation prior to becoming a law clerk at the Southwest Power Pool, Inc., Regulatory Affairs Department.  She now is an attorney at Southwest Power Pool.
