For most Donaghey Scholars, studying abroad is a highlight of their time in the program. It is an opportunity for them to explore places they have always been curious about. The benefits of study abroad include:
- Increased understanding of other cultures and global perspectives
- Sharpened interpersonal and communication skills
- Enhanced sense of independence and self-confidence
Many Scholars carry out some kind of research activity or internship, while others do coursework in their majors or a traditional foreign language program. Study abroad experiences are available worldwide and the Donaghey Scholars Program directors work closely with the student to find a university-approved experience that is right for them.
Destinations have included France, Spain, Germany, Korea, Czechia, Argentina, Morocco, Australia, South Africa, Thailand, and Japan. Many students pursue summer programs, but others stay for a semester or even a year.
The Program subsidizes the majority of costs for study abroad.
