Effective January 1, 2021
PATIENTS WITH UMR INSURANCE:
To help hold down patient cost, effective January 1, 2021, Health Services will become part of the SmartCare program offered through UMR. Becoming a SmartCare clinic allows Health Services to expand general services to UALR UMR-enrolled spouses and dependents who are 13 years of age or older.
As a member of the SmartCare program, Health Services must collect copays, deductibles, and co-insurance percentages as designated by UMR. The actual amount(s) UMR patients will pay depends upon the health plan in which they are enrolled (Classic or Premier). With either plan, the costs are less than what would be charged by a primary care physician (PCP), unless the PCP is at UAMS, in which case the costs would be the same.
Please note that Health Services is not equipped to offer all plan-covered services available through SmartCare. Health Services continues to offer well visits, sick visits, preventive care visits, women’s healthcare visits (including birth control), STD screening, immunizations, and both in-house and out-sourced lab services.
PATIENTS WITH INSURANCE OTHER THAN UMR:
Health Services is credentialed with most health insurance companies. When making an appointment, please provide your insurance card so we can verify that Health Services is in network with your insurance company.
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS OF IMPORTANCE APPLY TO EACH PATIENT REGARDLESS OF THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY:
- Patients MUST bring their insurance card to each appointment.
- Health Services will not know on the day of a visit, what charges, if any, the patient’s insurance company may deem as the patient’s responsibility. Health Services will know only after the claim is processed and an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is received. If any balance is due to the clinic, the patient will receive a statement from Inboxhealth showing the amount owed. The statement will be sent via email, text, or through the U.S. Postal Service, based on current information on file in the clinic. The statement will contain a secure link where patients can pay their charges or set up a payment plan if needed. Patients who have questions about their financial responsibility should contact their insurance company, not Health Services.
- Patients may receive a bill from Quest Diagnostics for any labs performed during the course of a visit in Health Services. These charges are separate from the medical visit and are not included in the Inboxhealth statement sent from Health Services. Any balance owed to Quest Diagnostics is between the patient, their insurance company, and Quest; not Health Services.
- Patients with insurance have the option at each visit to ask Health Services not to file a claim with their insurance company for the day’s visit. Instead patients can choose to use the self-pay discounted fee schedule. If self-pay is requested at the time of service, the patient can not change their mind at a late date and ask Health Services to bill insurance. Flexible spending cards can not be used to pay self-pay charges. Payment is expected at the time of service using cash or credit card.
- There is a $10 fee for missed appointments and cancellations not made at least 2 hours in advance. These charges can not be billed to the insurance company or paid with a flexible spending card.
PATIENTS WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE
Patients without health insurance will be charged based on the self-pay discounted fee schedule. Payment is expected at the time of service using cash or credit card. Students ONLY can request that these charges be posted to their BOSS account. Charges posted to BOSS must be paid by the end of each semester. Please note, there is now a $10 fee for missed appointments and cancellations not made at least 2 hours in advance.
