Minor Programs

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers three minors. To declare one of these minors, students should contact their advisor in their major department.

Mathematics Minor

The mathematics minor requires 18 hours of coursework including six hours of upper-level mathematics and/or statistics:

  • MATH 1451 – Calculus I
  • MATH 1452 – Calculus II
  • MATH 2310 – Discrete Mathematics
  • MATH 2453 – Calculus III
  • 3 hour upper level MATH elective
  • 3 hour upper level MATH or STAT elective

Mathematics Minor Curriculum

Statistics Minor

The minor in statistics is designed for students who wish to apply their mathematical training in any of the many fields that employ statistics. It requires at least 12 hours of statistics courses.

  • MATH 1223 – Intro to Mathematics Software
  • MATH 1451 – Calculus I
  • MATH 1452 – Calculus II
  • STAT 3350 – Introduction to Probability
  • STAT 3352 – Applied Statistics I
  • STAT 3353 – Applied Statistics II
  • STAT 3351 or STAT 4352

Actuarial Science Minor

The minor in Actuarial Science requires 18 hours of course work.

  • STAT 4342 – Introduction to SAS
  • STAT 3350 – Introduction to Probability
  • STAT 3352 – Applied Statistics I
  • MATH 4305 – Financial Mathematics
  • Two of these three courses:
    • FINC 3330 – Principles of Insurance
    • ACCT 2310 – Principles of Accounting
    • ECON 2322 – Principles of Microeconomics
