As a Cognitive Experimental Psychologist, Dr. Hines’ interests are primarily concentrated in the area of human learning and memory. He is currently serving as the undergraduate coordinator and adviser for students working towards a B.A. in Psychology. He is happy to serve as a reader on any thesis project, however, he will serve as a mentor only on projects directly related to experimental research in cognitive psychology and human memory. Dr. Hines is exploring the differences between good and poor readers. The research focuses on looking at the quality of the mental representations individuals construct from the material that is read and how those constructs affect what is remembered. He will be presenting a research poster at the Association for Psychological Science at the May conference in San Francisco: The Causal Chain of Events in Narrative Passages Enhances Free-Recall for Consistent Information More so Than for Functional Information. This Pattern Reverses with Time.
Soon Dr. Hines will begin the groundwork on a new study: Situation Models for Academic Programs.
