What is a 2+2 Transfer Agreement?

A “2+2 transfer agreement” is an educational pathway that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree by completing the first two years of their studies at a community college. Students often earn a Associates degree, and then transfer to a four-year college or university to complete the remaining two years of their Bachelor’s degree. This model streamlines the transfer process from a two-year institution to a four-year institution, and ensures that credits are recognized and accepted for degree completion.

UA Little Rock currently has over 150 2+2 Transfer Agreements in place, with additional transfer guides in progress.  Interested in partnering with another institution to create a seamless process for students to join and complete your program?  The Office of Transfer Student Services (OTSS) is here to assist you with the process. Starting with the initial meeting to discuss what opportunities both programs at our 2 year institutions might have available, we will ensure the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is completed and the 2+2 Transfer Guide is available for students from partnering institutions. OTSS is happy to assist as much or as little as needed.

MOU’s are typically created from a template that OTSS provides along with the MOU – Articulation Agreement process document. The process document outlines a pathway for programs to follow and ensures that agreements are set up and vetted for student use.

We want our program to partner with suitable programs and are interested in getting the process started.  Where do we begin?

Reach out to Allyson Douglass, Associate Registrar and Director of the Office of Transfer Student Services at [email protected] or 501-916-5529, to begin the process to create the 2+2 Transfer Agreement.  From there we help you start the process of creating the MOU and 2+2 Transfer Guide.

Things to keep in mind when starting the process:

  • MOU’s include information from both programs and institutions, so it is important to do your research to see if a program at a partner institution will work with your program.
  • Typical 2+2 Transfer Guides usually total 120 credit hours for both programs. This includes a plan of study for degree completion of an Associates degree at the partner institution and a Bachelor’s degree at UA Little Rock.  We try to keep these as close to 120 total credit hours so that the student can complete their degree in a timely manner.
  • Recommendations on what courses students can take while completing their Associates degree above general education requirements are used to build the Associates degree portion of the 2+2 Transfer Guide. This ensures a smooth transition and allows a student to be prepared to join the program for their Junior year at UA Little Rock.
  • MOU’s are typically signed for a 7 year period. The 2+2 Transfer Guide is reviewed annually for any updates that are needed.

We look forward to working with you to create more pathways for students to complete their degree at UA Little Rock!
