UALR professors earn Best Publication Award

LITTLE ROCK — Two professors of information science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have received the Best Publication Award at the International Conference on Information Systems in Milan, Italy.

Distinguished Professor and Maulden-Entergy Chair Rolf T. Wigand and Associate Professor Nitin Agarwal received the award for their article “Raising and Rising Voices in Social Media: A Novel Methodological Approach in Studying Cyber-Collective Movements.” The article appeared inBusiness & Information Systems Engineering in 2012.

The authors explained how cyber-collective social movements work in cross-cultural settings after observing female activists in Saudi Arabia who used social media platforms to protest against gender-biased laws and practices in that country.

Wigand said he and Agarwal wanted to dedicate the award “to the many Saudi women who do not have the right to drive.”
