Research Funding

The College of Business, Health, and Human Services (CBHHS) is pleased to support proposals for the Faculty Research Seed Grant. This initiative is designed to fund new research endeavors that have the potential to result in high-quality scholarly projects and enhance opportunities for securing external funding. While awards may be granted to individual applicants, interdisciplinary collaborations within CBHHS are strongly encouraged. Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report to the Dean’s Office and deliver a public presentation of their project.

  • Application Deadline: September 30
  • Maximum Funding: $4,000 per project

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be tenured or tenure-track faculty members within CBHHS.
  • Priority will be given to junior faculty pursuing research projects beyond their dissertation work.
  • Priority will also be given to applicants preparing external grant proposals.

Application Requirements:

Faculty must submit the following materials as a single PDF document to [email protected] by September 30:

  • Proposal (maximum 2,500 words) including:
    • Cover Page: Title and contact information
    • Abstract: (200 words)
    • Project Description: (1,000 words)
    • Project Outcomes and Implications: Theoretical, practical, or policy relevance (500 words)
    • Future Goals: Plans for continued or completed work (250 words)
    • Funding Justification: Explanation of how the funds will support the applicant’s research agenda (250 words)
  • Curriculum Vitae: Including all scholarly activity to date (publications, conference presentations, posters, exhibits, grants, etc.)
  • Detailed Budget and Budget Justification: Allowable expenses include, but are not limited to, summer stipends, course releases, conference attendance, professional development (e.g., statistical workshops), hardware/software purchases, or office supplies.

Review Process and Selection Criteria:

Applications will be reviewed by the CBHHS Awards Committee using a standardized rubric. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by December 1. Up to four (4) research seed grants will be awarded for Spring/Summer, with a maximum of one award per applicant per academic year.

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Conceptual clarity and development of the research topic
  • Importance and relevance of the research
  • Soundness of research design and project implications
  • Appropriateness and justification of the budget
  • Feasibility of the proposed timeline
    Alignment with the applicant’s larger research agenda

Reporting and Presentation Requirements:

Award recipients must submit a final or status report to the CBHHS Dean’s Office by September 1. This report should summarize research progress and list deliverables generated through the grant (e.g., manuscripts, grant proposals, conference presentations). Additionally, grant recipients will present their research findings to CBHHS faculty, staff, and students during the Fall semester.
