State License to Interpret in Arkansas
The Arkansas Legislature passed Act 1314 effective 2014 regulating the
“…practice of interpreting be subject to licensure and regulation to protect the public’s interest by providing minimum qualifications for interpreters and to ensure that members of the interpreting profession perform with a high degree of competency”
Interpreters who provide interpreting services for individuals who are Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing, or Oral deaf in the state of Arkansas are covered under this licensure law. The state can impose penalties for persons or entities that violate the law. Interpretation in K-12 school settings are established by the Arkansas Department of Education.
