How do residential dining plans work?
There are two types of residential dining plans: plans with “meals per week” with an additional amount of Flex Dollars, and a plan that is “meals per semester” with additional Flex Dollars. The “meals per semester” or Block plans, are only avialable for upperclass students. If you have a “meals per week” plan, you are allotted 3 meals per day or 1 meal per time frame. Below is a breakdown of each meal’s time frame.
Breakfast: 6:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M.
Lunch: 10:30 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.
Dinner: 3:00 P.M. – 12:00 A.M.
Any additional attempts to use your meal plan during these times will result in either a declined transaction or the cost of the meal being deducted from the remaining balance of your Flex Dollars.
As described above, meals may only be used once during a meal period. This means if a meal is used during breakfast, the student must wait until the lunch time frame to be able to use a meal again. Meals “reset” every week on Sunday. For example, if a student has the 14 meals per week plan, and they use all 14 meals by Wednesday, they will have to wait until the following Sunday to get the next week’s set of 14 meals. Meals may be used in the Cafeteria one time to fill up a tray or to purchase combos from Taco Bell that is located in the Student Center Food Court. “Trojan Grill” located by the Residence Halls, and “Sub Connection” located in the EIT building, also offer combos that qualify as “meals”.
Flex Dollars may be used to purchase the same items as meals, plus all other items offered by Dining Services, such as the “Proudly Serving Starbucks” provided in the Food Court, and items from the Commons Market.
If a student chooses a dining plan with meals per week and an additional amount of Flex Dollars, such as the 8 meals per week with $500 Flex Dollars, then the meals will reset every week, but the Flex Dollars will not.
The Block, or “meals per semester” plans, allow students a lump sum of meals to be used over the course of the semester. For example, a student who chooses the 75 Block with $600 Flex Dollars will have access to those 75 meals for that semester only. The meals do not replenish at the end of the week period, like the “meals per week” plans. If a student uses all of their 75 meals for the fall semester by October, they will not have access to the meal options until the start of the spring semester.
Block meals do not roll over to the following semester and do not replenish after a student has used their meals for that semester. The Flex Dollars associated with the Block plans do roll over to the spring semester. Unused Dining Dollars will roll over from the Fall semester to the Spring semester but will expire at the end of the Spring semester.
