The Bill Gwatney Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the Bill Gwatney Memorial Endowed Scholarship shall be to honor the memory of the Arkansas State Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney and is in recognition of his dedication to the political process at which he achieved many accomplishments. The funds will be used to provide for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board, for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education in political science, international studies, legal studies, or community management and development at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The selection of the recipients of the Bill Gwatney memorial Endowed Scholarship shall be the responsibility of the Director of the School of Public Affairs in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student majoring in political science, international studies, legal studies, or community management and development
  • Preference will be given to junior and senior-level students
  • Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered
  • Recipients shall write a letter of appreciation to the Donors, which shall serve as their official notice of acceptance.

The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each spring term for use in the next academic year. The scholarship is renewable, but the recipient must reapply annually.

The Jeffrey C. Ledbetter Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the Jeffrey C. Ledbetter Endowed Scholarship shall be to honor the memory of Jeffrey C. Ledbetter and to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board, for students majoring in Political Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The selection of the recipients of the Jeffrey C. Ledbetter Endowed Scholarship shall be the responsibility of a committee in the School of Public Affairs headed by the Director and consisting of all full-time faculty who wish to serve in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student majoring in political science
  • Preference will be given to junior and senior-level students
  • Evidence of an interest in public service will be the primary consideration
  • Academic accomplishment and financial need may also be considered in the selection process
  • Recipients shall write a letter of appreciation to the Donors, which shall serve as their official notice of acceptance

The James R. Garison Endowed Book Fund

The purpose of the James R. Garison Endowed Book Fund shall be to honor the memory of James R. Garison and to provide assistance for the purchase of textbook expenses for students pursuing or furthering a degree or continuing education in Political Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The selection of the recipients of the Garison award will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student majoring in political science
  • Preference will be given to junior and senior-level students
  • Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered
  • Recipients hall write a letter of appreciation to the Donor Representatives, which shall serve as their official notice of acceptance

The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each spring term for use in the next academic year. The scholarship is renewable, but the recipient must reapply annually.

The James R. Garison Pi Sigma Alpha Award

The purpose of the James R. Garison Pi Sigma Alpha Award shall be to honor the memory of James R. Garison and to recognize an outstanding member of the Iota Mu chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society at UA Little Rock, who exemplifies the virtues of public service and academic performance.

The selection of the recipients of the Garison Pi Sigma Alpha award will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student majoring in political science, and a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society
  • Academic accomplishment and a commitment to public service will be strongly considered

The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each spring term for use in the next academic year.

Tim Massanelli Endowed Scholarship for Political Science

The selection of the recipients of the Tim Massanelli Endowed Scholarship will be selected in accordance with the following criteria:

  • The recipient shall be a full- or part-time student majoring in political science
  • Preference will be given to junior and senior-level students
  • Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered

Martha Sawrie Stephenson Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six hours. The recipient must have a declared major in English, History, or Political Science. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA no lower than 2.5 and no higher than 3.5. Because the scholarship is renewable, it shall not be revoked if the student’s GPA exceeds 3.5 in subsequent years. All things being equal, extreme financial need shall be the determining factor in the selection process.
