Sequoyah Center Receives Arkansas Humanities Council Grant
Arkansas Humanities Council has awarded UALR’s Sequoyah Research Center a $6,065 grant to finance the production of Incident at Rock Roe, an animated Muscogee (Creek)-language film about Muscogee (Creek) removal through Arkansas on the Trail of Tears.
Earlier this year, the Arkansas Humanities Council funded the pre-production phase, which included writing the script and creating the storyboards for the production. The animation is the work of Roy Boney, Jr., a graduate student in art, who holds the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Fellowship in the SRC.
A citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Boney is an experienced animator of native language films, working with clay figures and stop-action filming as well as computer generated animations.
