UALR Open House Welcomes High Schoolers
Choosing a college can be one of the most daunting decisions for a young adult, but an annual event from UALR is designed to make the evaluation process run more smoothly for both parents and students.
The UALR Open House for prospective students and their parents will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, in the Donaghey Student Center.
Each year, about 400 high school students attend the event with their parents in tow, inspecting University residence halls and talking to professors. They have the opportunity to speak to current students about life at Arkansas’ only metropolitan university as well as hear from important services that improve the quality of student life.
Representatives from a number of campus academic departments and colleges, student organizations, and programs have educational booths planned for the event.
“All the students get a chance to talk to professors in the departments they’re interested in, and we’ll have computers to help them apply for admission to UALR and for financial aid,” said Chelsea Bishop, coordinator in the Office of Recruitment and Retention. “We treat them to breakfast and lunch and try to give them an accurate picture of what life’s like on the UALR campus.”
The open house provides a peek into the UALR culture, allowing them to see how important they are to the University’s future success. Students who would like to visit UALR can go to http://recruitment.ualr.edu and schedule a campus tour with the Office of Recruitment and Retention or call (501) 683-7302.
