UALR Opera Theatre’s ‘Pirates’ to Benefit Opera Endowment
Due to popular response, the UALR Opera Theatre has expanded the performance schedule for the spring production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. The run opens at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, with a gala premiere benefiting the Homer T. and Betty U. Jones Opera and Voice Endowment.
Tickets to the premiere are a tax-deductible $50 and include a champagne reception following the performance.
Additional performances are 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15. Tickets to these two performances are $10 for general admission. Admission for UALR students is free to all performances.

“The Pirates of Penzance is probably the best of all the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas,” said Edward Crafts, director of the UALR Opera Theatre. “It has wonderfully tuneful music, a whole cast of whimsically eccentric characters, and its second act is even better than the first – something very rare in the theater.”
