Journalism Student Wins Douthit Trust Scholarship

Jim Stallings , a sophomore journalism major in the School of Mass Communications, has won the $1,500 scholarship from the George C. Douthit Trust. He is the latest of a series of winners of intercollegiate awards landed by UALR students studying journalism, radio-television-film, and public relations.

“We’ve been pretty successful with our students winning third party awards this year,” said Dr. Jamie Byrne, director of the school within the College of Professional Studies. “Rebecca Champion won the Paul Eels Scholarship, and Caroline Tyler won a Jim Elder Good Sports Award.”

Tyler, of Texarkana, Texas, also won the Robyn Richardson Scholarship and the Harry Ashmore Scholarship. She is a senior who this summer is an intern with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Champion, of Jacksonville, is majoring in radio-television-film.

All told, UALR School of Mass Communications students received about $30,000 in scholarships this year, Byrne said.
