Middle Eastern Studies Presents Second Annual Ramadan Fast Program
The UALR Middle Eastern Studies Program is hosting its second annual Think Fast! Ramadan Interfaith Fast, Iftar, and Food Drive at 6:30p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Donaghey Student Center Rooms B and C.
The event offers opportunities to learn about the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and to collect food for Arkansas’ needy. The food drive will run Sept. 22 to 26.
Food donations may be brought to the iftar – the fast-ending meal – or be turned in all week at the departments of history, sociology, and anthropology, which are all located in Stabler Hall.
“We are asking for non-Muslim volunteers to fast for just one day along with Little Rock’s Muslim community to find out what it is like and to encourage donations to the food drive,” said Professor Krista Lewis, one of the organizers of the event. “Encourage friends and family to participate and ask for donations of non-perishable food items in honor of your fast. You will be learning one of the most important lessons of Ramadan, which is to think about the blessings you have and to be more charitable to others as a result.”
Everyone of all faiths and ages is welcome to join in the community iftar. Tasty Middle Eastern food will be served. For more information call 569.8322 or email Lewis.
