UALR Hosts Regional Conference on Differential Equations
UALR’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics welcomes mathematicians from across the globe Oct. 10 to 11 to the 28th annual Southeastern-Atlantic Regional Conference on Differential Equations (SEARCDE) at Dickinson Hall.
Mathematicians from Southern Illinois University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and the University of Illinois at Chicago are among the speakers at the symposium, being chaired by Dr. Eric R. Kaufmann, professor of mathematics, and his UALR colleague, Dr. Nickolai Kosmatov, associate professor of mathematics.
A differential equation is a mathematical equation for an unknown function of one or several variables that relates the values of the function itself and of its derivatives of various orders. Differential equations play a prominent role in engineering, physics, economics, population and disease dynamics, and other disciplines.
For nearly three decades the SEARCDE has been a conference which brings together established and new researchers and advanced graduate students for an exchange of ideas and discussions on the diverse aspects of differential equations.
The primary purpose of the conference is to promote research and education in the field of differential equations – ordinary and partial differential equations and functional differential equations, numerical techniques and their applications to biology, engineering and physics.
The conference also is being sponsored by the National Science Foundation and UALR’s College of Science and Mathematics.
