Provost Announces New Graduate Dean
Dr. Patrick Pellicane, dean of the graduate school at East Carolina University, will be UALR’s new vice provost for research and dean of the graduate school, Provost David O. Belcher has announced. Pellicane will assume his UALR duties Feb. 1, 2009.
“Dr. Pellicane will bring to UALR strong experience in the research and graduate program arenas and will be an excellent partner as our University strengthens its efforts and profile in both,” Belcher said.
Before coming to East Carolina in 2006, Pellicane served as interim graduate dean at Colorado State University, where he taught in the Department of Forest Science specializing in wood science and wood engineering. He earned his B.S. in mathematics at City College of New York and a master’s in mathematics at St. John’s University. Pellicane earned a second master’s degree in forestry and Ph.D. in forestry at Colorado State.
He was the president of the Center for the Advancement of Forest Ecosystem Resource Utilization and Management (CAFURUM) in Fort Collins, Colo., and was a strategic planner for the Ministry of the Environment in Ghana. He served as a wood products specialist in Hondorus for the U.S. Agency for International Development. Pellicane has also served as visiting professor in Malaysia, Sweden, Poland, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
