Education Alum Lands THV’s Golden Apple

Jason Bolick, a first-year graduate of UALR’s College of Education Secondary Education program, has won the December Golden Apple Award from KTHV-TV.

Here’s what the television station said about him:

“Jason Bolick looks like a ninth grader, but no, he’s a teacher. He’s quite a teacher. Before the school year started, he went to his vice principal at Little Rock Mills and demanded white boards. He wanted the white boards all around the room. Vice Principal Anderson approved the order, but wasn’t sure why.

“But several weeks later, when Mr. Anderson went into Jason Bolick’s classroom to give the rookie teacher an evaluation, he immediately understood.

“He had kids at the board with another nine sitting at their desks, and as these 16 were working the bell ringer math problems, the extra kids were helping those at the board. You had learning taking place from the boards, at the seats, cooperative learning and teams. You also had Mr. Bolick at the board with a student who was having trouble.

“In short, there was learning all around the room on many different levels. The white boards had paid off.”
