Alumni Association President Alfred L. Williams ’66 has seen UALR grow by leaps and bounds since he first attended the University.

Now, growing the association is his top priority as president of its board of directors.

“I want us to continue to grow our Alumni Association active membership and specifically to increase its endowment, so that we are in a position to offer more scholarships to UALR students,” said Williams, who has served on the board since 2005 and previously for two years in the 1980s. Williams has been president of the board since 2007.

Williams is also a member of the UALR Foundation Fund Board and the College of Business Advisory Council. As a council member, he participates in networking mixers to help students prepare for the workforce. Williams knows how his degree prepared him for a 40-year career in the insurance industry and fostered an “ability to work on more than one task at a time.” While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Little Rock University (now UALR), he was a freshmen men’s senator, sophomore class president, and member of the Sigma Nu and Alpha Kappa Psi fraternities.

Since 1989, Williams has been senior vice president of the Commercial and Non-Medical Professional Division at Ramsey, Krug, Farrell, & Lensing Insurance in Little Rock. His division handles sales and risk management services for large commercial accounts. Positions with Cobb, Hollenberg & Associates; Atkins Insurance Corporation; and  Williams and Rosen Inc. helped establish Williams’ expertise in the insurance business.

Additionally, he was an airman in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970, serving in the 74th Air Defense Missile Squadron in Minnesota and at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

A Dale Carnegie associate and 1990 graduate of Leadership Greater Little Rock, Williams was an executive committee member for the Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas. He is a former board member for the Little Rock Sister Cities Commission, Rotary Club 99, Arkansas Opera Company, Wildwood Park for the Arts, Metropolitan YMCA, Museum of Discovery, and Presbyterian Village of Little Rock. His leadership awards include the Cecil J. Cleavenger Outstanding Young Insurance Agent Award for Arkansas, Allan Kennedy Outstanding Insurance Agent Award – Arkansas, Dale Carnegie’s highest award for achievement, First Chairman’s Award from Sister Cities International in 2000, and recognition from the United Way of Pulaski County.

Williams’ life-long community service spirit was inspired by his father, E. Grainger Williams, who advised giving back to the community and helping others who can’t always help themselves. Grainger Williams graduated from Little Rock Junior College in 1931 and later served as its board chair. Alfred and wife Elaine Eubank, ’75, have two children and three grandchildren who live in Tennessee.
