University TV to Air Earthquake Expert’s Lecture in Coming Days

Because of high interest at Wednesday’s earthquake lecture by UALR expert Haydar Al-Shukri at the Clinton School for Public Service, UALR’s University TV, Channel 62 on Comcast, will broadcast the lecture in the coming days.

Cheryl Hellman, station manager at Channel 62, said the station will broadcast Al-Shukri’s discussion at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22; 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, and 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.

Al-Shukri, director of the Arkansas Center for Earthquake Education and Technology Transfer in UALR’s College of Engineering and Information Technology, discussed the recent series of small earthquakes in Central Arkansas and the potential for larger quakes in the future.

The most recent quake hit Clinton, Ark., last week at a magnitude of 2.7. The center recently installed several measurement devices to determine whether there is an undiscovered fault in the region. Five earthquakes ranging from 2.2 to 2.7 in magnitude hit the area in November alone.
