Brandon Hamilton, a 2008 graduate of UALR in philosophy who has been submitted by UALR as a Fulbright research scholar, successfully competed against a national pool of candidates and is awaiting to hear if his research proposal was accepted by a host country.

UALR professors Stephen Farrelly and Andrew Eshelman mentored Hamilton, who is from Garfield.

Another UALR scholar – Antonio Carroll, a junior studying political science – has accepted an offer to attend the University of California Berkeley’s Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute, the UALR College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences announced.

Carroll, of Mt. Holly, completed an internship this summer at the Washington Center as a delegate from UALR and now is awaiting a final decision on his Truman Fellow application.

He is one of about 30 undergraduate students from across the nation selected to attend the seven-week Berkley program.

He will attend policy skills classes, hear guest speakers, go on field trips, and earn nine credit hours from UC Berkeley. The program provides housing, meals, course materials, travel arrangements, and a $1,000 stipend.

Carroll is a graduate of Smackover High School.
