UALR faculty, staff, and students will have the chance to explore the campus’ green initiatives on Wednesday, April 22, National Earth Day. A number of campus groups will sponsor special events to increase awareness of the University’s commitment to sustainability and good stewardship of natural resources.

The campus community and residents of the University District can drop off their old electronics, such as household electronics, microwaves, and old televisions, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 in Lot 15. Students from the UALR Student Government Association volunteered to help accept the unwanted electronics for proper disposal. This event is for household items only.

A demonstration of the “Bulb Eater,” equipment used to recycle spent florescent bulbs, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in the plaza near Ottenheimer Library.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., students, faculty, and staff can have their tires checked for proper inflation in lot 15 to help save gas and ensure safety.

Throughout the day, each of the sponsors – UALR’s Recycling Committee, Sustainability Committee and Net Impact group – will have tables in the solicitation area at the Donaghey Student Center. The groups will have information on current activities and their roles on campus. Snacks will be given free to those who visit the tables on Earth Day.
