UALR Voice Disorder Expert Co-Authors Textbook

Dr. Richard Zraick, a national expert on the voice and voice therapy, recently co-authored the eighth edition of a textbook on communicative disorders that currently commands 65 percent of the market. The book, “The Voice and Voice Therapy,” is the leading text in the field of voice disorders.

Zraick, a national expert on voice disorders and neurologically-based communication disorders such as those caused by strokes, wrote the latest edition with co-authors Daniel Boone, Steve McFarlane, and Shelly von Berg.

The text has been the most widely used in the field of voice disorders for more than 35 years, currently commanding 65 percent of the market, said Thomas Guyette, Ph.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology.

“This is a textbook used all over the world, and it’s an exciting opportunity for Dr. Zraick to share his knowledge,” Guyette said. “At the same time, his participation emphasizes the quality of faculty we have in our department, which benefits both our students and the patients we see.”

Zraick joined the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology in 1997 and holds a joint appointment between UALR and UAMS.
