Wikstrom Selected to Play in NCAA Golf Regional

UALR senior Sara Wikstrom was one of nine players in the country to receive an at-large invitation to the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship Regionals. Wikstrom will play in the NCAA Central Regional for the third-consecutive year and is headed to the Scarlet Golf Course, May 7-9, in Columbus, Ohio.

A four-time All-Conference selection, Wikstrom is coming off a second-place finish at last week’s Sun Belt Championships in Houston, Texas. She ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference with a 73.86 scoring average and is 52nd in the nation in the most recent Golfstat Cup Standings.

In 10 events this season, the Jonkoping, Sweden, native has recorded six top-five finishes while capturing individual medalist honors at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational and Texas Tech’s McHaney/Morehead Invitational.

In four seasons at UALR, Wikstrom has played in 43 events with seven career victories and 23 top-5 finishes. In addition to her athletic achievements, Wikstrom has earned All-American Scholar accolades from the National Golf Coaches Association each of her first three years at UALR.

She will be one of 324 participants in the regional round, with 126 of those players advancing to the championships finals. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each of the three regionals to make up the championship field.

The championship finals will be hosted by Georgetown University, May 19-22, at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md.
