Law School Welcomes New Class

The Bowen School’s Alumni Association and the Young Lawyers Section of the Arkansas Bar is sponsoring a barbecue beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, under tents on the lawn in front of the McMath Avenue campus. First Security and the Moffitt and Phillips law firm are also hosting the get-together that kicks off the official start of the law school year.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, students and their families and members of the Pulaski County Bar Association are invited to the Dean’s Reception. Following the event will be the official student orientation, and students will take the oath for the school. Parents, spouses, and other family members will also participate in a special session where they will learn about what law school is like and how they can help their student succeed.

Last month, the Bowen School provided breakfast and lunch during the grueling bar exams July 28-30. About 100 of those students were graduates of the UALR school.

“Many of us know how stressful taking the bar exam can be,” said Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Valerie D. Nation. “So we make it an annual tradition to provide support for not only our graduates but all prospective attorneys in the state. The event works to strengthen relationships throughout the legal community because we have alumni, professors, and staff members there to offer advice and positive reinforcement for all those sitting for the bar.”

The test-takers will find out the results of their exams in September.
