UALR Instructor Elected to Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Instructor Tracy Watson, an instructor in UALR’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been elected president of the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM).
Watson earned a bachelor of science degree from Millersville University in Millersville, Penn. She earned a master of science degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
The ACTM provides vision and leadership in improving the teaching and learning of mathematics so that every student is ensured of an equitable standards-based mathematics education and every teacher of mathematics is given the opportunity to grow professionally.
ACTM is the hub of knowledge for Arkansas’ mathematics teachers for all the topics relevant to their profession, including upcoming events, the latest interesting or helpful content information, and the experiences of other teachers around the state. This knowledge is shared through three printed newsletters a year and through the website.
In November, ACTM is a sponsor of major professional development events at the annual Arkansas Curriculum Conference in conjunction with science, social studies, and language arts teacher organizations. It affords close to 400 pre-kindergarten through college mathematics teachers the opportunity to attend presentations on teaching strategies and technology.
