Sustainability Report: Out with the New, In with the Old

Big, white collection bins popping up around campus since July 1 are signs that a new hauler is in town, collecting under the State Mixed Paper Recycling program. Allied Waste won the state contract beginning July.

UALR joined the State Mixed Paper Recycling program in 2007. The service is free to the campus, but the agency overseeing the program has seen a huge increase in their cost to service the 35 locations in the Little Rock area, so now certain restrictions apply such as the number of bins and frequency of pick ups.

“During this transition of change from one hauler to another, we will be looking at our processes and addressing issues resulting from the restrictions of the program, hauler change, and growth,” said Sandra Vail, associate director of the Physical Plant and member of the Recycling Committee.
