Screening, Discussion Rounds Out Hispanic Heritage Month

Make plans to see “Walkout,” the Edward James Olmost-directed true story about the little-known walkout to protest the injustices of the public high school system in East Los Angeles in the 1970s.

The screening, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in Stabler Hall Room 107, is sponsored by members of Councils 750 and 756 of the League of United Latin American Citizens in collaboration with UALR’s Hispanic Heritage Month. Admission is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

The month-long series of events will be capped off with a box lunch at noon Thursday, Oct. 15, when El Latino editor Michel Liedermann joins UALR Chancellor Joel Anderson, Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard, professor of sociology, and a guest from the Arkansas State Senate will discuss immigrants’ access to education in a panel discussion in the DSC Leadership Lounge. Reserve a seat by contacting wcstanton@ualr.edu or calling 501-569-3308. Space is limited.
