UALR Health Services Begin Flu Shots
UALR Health Services will be holding its annual flu vaccine campaign this month, beginning with high risk clinics from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15 and 16, followed by general flu vaccine clinics from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday Oct. 19 to 23.
All vaccinations will target the regular seasonal influenza A and B virus and will be administered in the Health Services Office in Donaghey Student Center Room 103.

“We have applied to be a point of distribution for the H1N1 vaccines, but have not yet heard from the Arkansas Department of Health if we have been selected,” said Marie Sandusky, director of UALR Health Services.
Anyone with one or more of the following conditions is considered high risk for flu:
- Heart disease
- Lung disease such as asthma
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Metabolic diseases such as diabetes
- Anemia and other blood disorders
Also considered high risks are people with a weakened immune system due to:
- HIV/AIDS or other diseases affecting the immune system
- Long term treatment with drugs such as steroids
- Cancer treatment with X-rays or drugs
- Anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders, such as seizure disorders or cerebral palsy that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems.
- Persons aged 50 years and older
- Pregnant women
- Health care personnel
- Household contacts and caregivers of children under five years of age
- Household contacts and caregivers of persons with high-risk medical conditions
Qual Choice insurance will pay for all UALR employees who bring their QC membership ID card on the day of the vaccination. UALR’s Wellness Pays Program will cover all benefits-eligible employees not covered by QC.
Employees not benefits eligible can pay $20 at the cashier’s office in Administration North and bring the receipt to Health Services for a vaccination.
