Bowen School Profs Earn Honors

Four professors at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law have recently earned honors for their expertise on national and international issues.

Charles Baum Distinguished Professor of Law Sarah Howard Hobbs was one of 47 attorneys, judges, and professors from throughout the United States elected to The American Law Institute (ALI) on Dec. 3. ALI members are elected through a selective process. The organization chooses individuals who have made significant professional achievements, demonstrated leadership and promise, and who are interested in promoting the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work. Election is considered one of the highest honors in the legal profession.

Professor Ken Gallant was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the International Criminal Defence Attorneys Association (ICDAA). Gallant is one of 20 attorneys and scholars elected to the board, which is responsible for guiding the actions of the ICDAA. Headquartered in Montreal, the ICDAA is an international non-governmental organization (INGO) dedicated to strengthening fair trial rights and an independent legal profession in the international criminal justice system.

Professor Ken Gould was recently appointed to the curriculum committee for the Association of American Law Schools (AALS). The AALS is a nonprofit educational association of 171 law schools representing over 10,000 law faculty in the U.S. The purpose of the association is the improvement of the legal profession through legal education.

Associate Professor Robert Steinbuch was recently appointed the associate editor for legal-medical issues for the Journal of the National Medical Association (JNMA). The National Medical Association serves as the primary source for specialized clinical research activities related to the health problems of African-Americans and other minority groups.

“Our professors work each day to share their professional knowledge with Bowen students,” said Bowen Dean John DiPippa. “These honors recognize their achievements at the national and international level and highlight their commitment to our core values of professionalism, public service, and access to justice.”
