UALR Hosts College Goal Sunday at Bryant High Feb. 21
UALR invites college-bound students and their parents in the Saline County area to a College Goal Sunday event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at Bryant High School to learn about federal financial aid applications, the Arkansas Lottery Scholarship, and help with completing the forms.
The event wraps up Arkansas’ Say Go College Week Feb. 15 to 19 – a statewide initiative aimed at getting more Arkansas students to go to college. Gov. Mike Beebe kicked off the effort at a pep rally at North Little Rock High School on Tuesday. It culminates with Arkansas’ College Goal Sunday at 37 sites – including the Bryant High School event – statewide.
At the Bryant High event, financial aid administrators and volunteers will provide free assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Register for College Goal Sunday at arcollegegoalsunday.org. Visit ualr.edu/financialaid or call 501-569-3035 for more information.
Families who would like assistance filling out the federal form should bring the following to the event:
- PIN for student and a parent from www.pin.ed.gov
- Latest tax information for student and parents
- 2009 W-2 Forms
- Social Security numbers
- Proof of Social Security benefits received in 2009
- Amounts of untaxed income in 2009
- Amounts of child support received or paid in 2009
- Checking and savings account balances
- Knowledge of worth of family assets (other than home)
“Participants will walk away from the event with a completed financial aid application and the satisfaction of knowing they have tackled a big step in preparing for college,” said Tammy Harrison, director of admissions and financial aid at UALR. “Our goal for College Goal Sunday is to ensure that the process of applying for financial aid is not an obstacle that would keep anyone from pursuing a college education.”
