Computer Science Junior Wins Google Scholarship

UALR Computer Science student Michael Jolley of Batesville is among 11 students in the United States and Canada who have been awarded the Google Lime Scholarship for students with disabilities.

Jolley will receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2010–11 academic year. He has been invited to attend an all-expenses-paid retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, Calif., next year.

Scholarships were awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic background, leadership, and passion for computer science.  A junior majoring in computer science, Jolley is minoring in religious studies.

Lime, founded in 2006 by a former Merrill Lynch executive, was founded with the purpose of offering a fresh approach to disability and adding value to the global corporate community by unlocking economic potential through employment of people with disabilities. The scholarship is offered in partnership with Google as a part of their ongoing commitment to help in dismantling barriers that keep disabled students from entering computing and technology fields.
