Speaking of Green: Colleges Compete to Advance Sustainability

Members of the UALR Committee on Sustainability are offering cash prizes to department and offices that are finding unique solutions to making the campus more green.

The committee wants members of the UALR community to share what they are doing to:

  • Improve recycling
  • Reduce energy usage
  • Reduce waste
  • Reduce petroleum usage
  • Give back to the community, particularly the University District
  • Contribute to the economic, social, and/or environmental sustainability of UALR
  • Buy “Green” sustainable, recycled products

“Entries that reflect the greatest initiative, impact, results, or potential for widespread duplication across campus (as determined by a judging committee) will be honored and rewarded,” said Sandra Vail, project and program specialist in the Physical Plan. “We will present four awards of $500 each. This competition is limited to units, departments, or colleges. Awards will not be made to individuals.”

Send this information via e-mail to Sustainability Committee members Mike Shepherd at meshepherd@ualr.edu or Vail at slvail@ualr.edu. Deadline for submissions is March 31. Submissions will be shared on the UALR sustainability website.
