KUAR FM 89 will celebrate Arkansas Heritage Month with its fourth performance of “The Arkansas Flyer,” the live variety show highlighting the best of Arkansas culture and music, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Wildwood Park for the Arts.

Hosting the festivities will be singer-songwriter Amy Garland, an Arkansas favorite. Featured acts will be the Salty Dogs and Arkansas bluesman John “JC” Craig. The Invisible Radio Theater returns with old-fashioned radio skits.

“I played the Flyer last year, and it’s such a great time for both the artists and the audience,” said Garland. “I can’t to see what Bob Hulsey has up his sleeve for the Invisible Radio Theater. If you’re a local politician or pundit, watch out!”

“’The Arkansas Flyer’ is KUAR’s way of sharing Arkansas music and culture with our audience,” said UALR Public Radio General Manger Ben Fry. “We partner with the Department of Arkansas Heritage and adopt the theme for each year’s Arkansas Heritage Month.”

The 2010 Arkansas Heritage Month theme is “Roads Less Traveled: The Enduring Heritage of Rural Arkansas,” and “The Arkansas Flyer” will feature music and skits that focus on Arkansas’ rural heritage.

New this year, “The Arkansas Flyer” moves to Wildwood Park for the Arts, a woodland garden featuring a covered pavilion and the 625-seat Lucy Lockett Cabe Theatre in west Little Rock. “We’re excited about the move to Wildwood because now we’ll be able to serve food and drinks,” says Fry. “We’re hosting a barbecue, so come early.”
