School of Mass Communication Offers Scholarships for Media Camp

High school students interested in careers in the mass media and media production may attend UALR’s School of Communication’s Media Production Camp for Arkansas High School Students July 18 to 24.

UALR, the Arkansas Broadcasters Association, and the Television Broadcasters of Arkansas are sponsoring 20 scholarships to the week-long camp.

Scholarship applications must be postmarked no later than 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15. Scholarships will be announced by June 1.

Scholarship campers must:

  • Be enrolled in an Arkansas high school and have sophomore or junior status.
  • Hold a grade point average of 2.5 or more.
  • Be enrolled in their school’s broadcast journalism, television broadcasting, television production, or EAST program.
  • Submit a completed application form with the signature of the student’s broadcasting teacher or EAST Facilitator.
  • Submit a brief essay (no more than two double-spaced pages and no less than one page) describing why you are interested in broadcasting and media production.

Applicants may submit a brief video on DVD or VHS tape (in good taste) of no more than three minutes long, but this submission is strictly optional.
