UALR Remembers Steve Mourning
He graduated from UALR in 1970 and made a career in Colorado and California. But Steven Lewis Mourning understood the importance of supporting hometown institutions. He was a lifetime member of UALR’s Alumni Association.
Mourning, who died unexpectedly last week, was remembered at a funeral service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Monday as a lifelong participant in philanthropic enterprises. During his career, he served as president of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation in Denver and was vice president of development at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
Last year, he relocated to his hometown of Little Rock after renewing a courtship with his Mablevale High School friend, Anne Taylor. The two married last year. Anne Taylor Mourning is UALR’s director of Development, Major and Planned Gifts.
Mourning is also survived by twin daughters, two grandsons, a brother, and sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UALR Foundation, 2801 S. University Avenue, Little Rock, Ark., 72207 or the Mourning Madison Institute Endowment Fund at the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy Foundation, 313 Park Avenue, Suite 400, Falls Church, Va., 22046. An online guestbook may be signed at ruebelfuneralhome.com.
