Wayland to Chair Marketing and Advertising
Dr. Jane Wayland has been named chair of Marketing and Advertising in UALR’s College of Business, Dean Anthony Chelte announced today.
Wayland, who has served for the past year as associate dean of graduate studies for the business college, assumed her new assignment July 1. She previously served as interim dean. In addition to her chair duties, Wayland will teach principles of marketing and services marketing courses beginning in the spring.
“I have enjoyed working with Dr. Wayland in her capacity as associate dean and look forward to the leadership she will bring to the Department of Marketing and Advertising,” said Dr. Chelte. “Jane brings an incredible amount of energy, commitment, and vision to the marketing chair position. I am confident that we will see the results of her leadership as it impacts the program, new initiatives, and the resurgence of the Center for Professional Selling.”
Since joining the College of Business administration staff, Wayland created a giving circle, Advancing Management Education (AME), which currently has 12 members and has contributed a total of $16,225 to the college’s programs.
Her goals in her new role include growing the number of marketing majors, establishing a marketing organization – Student Marketing Association (SMA) – and placing graduates in marketing jobs.
“Using a grant from AME, we will have a tour of businesses to show marketing majors jobs that others in their field are doing. We will also increase the use of social media with students and involve our Marketing Advisory Board with faculty,” Wayland said.
Prior to her UALR service, Wayland spent 16 years at Eastern Illinois University, serving in a variety of capacities that included serving as chair of its School of Business. She received her Ph.D. in marketing from the University of North Texas and an MBA and B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
